The Trebižat is a right tributary of the Neretva in Herzegovina in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina . The total length of the river is about 50 km, with only the lower 30 km bearing the name Trebižat. The most important of the three source rivers is the Tihaljina , which rises at an altitude of 903 m in the area of the municipality of Posušje . The other source rivers are Vrlika and Mlade .

course

The Trebižat takes its name from the union of the source rivers Tihaljina and Vrlika near the place Vitina, which belongs to the municipality of Ljubuški , the area of which is almost completely crossed by the river from northwest to southeast. Ljubuški is also the largest place on the river. In the area of this city, the Trebižat flows through a wide valley that is particularly used for viticulture . About five kilometers south-east of Ljubuški the valley narrows and an area begins with numerous rapids and waterfalls, of which the Kravica Falls are the most famous. From the town of the same name, Trebižat, the valley widens again before the river flows into the Neretva at Čapljina .

use

While the area on the upper reaches of the Trebižat is mainly used for agriculture, the area between Ljubuški and Trebižat is a nature reserve where nature-based tourism is developing. In addition to many fishing opportunities, canoe rafting is also offered here.
