Life

Takashi Hashiguchi won an award from Kodansha Verlag in 1987 for the best young draftsman. This award led to the fact that he was able to publish his first manga as a professional draftsman in 1988 . The short story, titled Combat Teacher , appeared in the young adult manga magazine Young Magazine , which included Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow and Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo . Shortly after the release of Combat Teacher , he wanted to start an entertainer career with a friend. Since the two were unsuccessful as Takeshi Takashi , Hashiguchi turned back to drawing manga in 1991.

While his debut work appeared in a Seinen magazine of the Kodansha publishing house, from then on he mainly created mangas aimed at elementary school students and published by the Shogakukan publishing house. For Coro-Coro magazine he drew Kinniku Kurabu and Chie-bā-chan no chiebukuro as well as the Yonkoma manga Suto II Bakusho !!, based on the video game Street Fighter II ! Yon-koma Gag Gaiden . In 1996, Hashiguchi drew for the first time for the manga magazine Shōnen Sunday , which is aimed at a slightly older target group than the Coro Coro.

From December 1997 to August 2000, Chōsoku Spinner was published in Coro Coro, a manga series about yo-yos that was also implemented as a 22-part anime series from November 1998 to September 1999 . Sport or the realization of childhood dreams were also a central theme in his next works, Windmill and Scissors . Windmill tells about the high school student Taki, who is an avid bowling player and who happened to get into handball . She seems to have great talent for this sport. Scissors is about a boy who goes to Tokyo to become the best hairdresser in Japan.

Hashiguchi's next manga, Yakitate !!, has a similar plot to Scissors. Japan , on. It is about Kazuma Azuma, who is leaving for Tokyo to prove his talent in bread-baking and to realize his dream of baking a Japanese national bread. Yakitate !! Japan appeared in Shōnen Sunday from 2001 to 2007 and is Hashiguchi's longest and most successful comic to date with 26 volumes. The manga was awarded the Shogakukan Manga Prize , translated into German and French, and filmed as an anime from autumn 2004.
