Miwa Ueda ( Japanese 上 田 美 和 , Ueda Miwa ; born September 29, 19xx in Hyōgo prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist whose works, mostly love stories, are aimed at young girls and can be assigned to the Shōjo genre.

Life

She drew at the age of five in order to become as good as a relative of hers, an artist. She published her first manga as a professional illustrator in 1985 with the short story Momoiro Biyaku in the May issue of the manga magazine Juliet , a sister magazine of the Bessatsu Friend . In the next few years she drew a few more short stories and short manga series for Juliet and Bessatsu Friend , both of which are published by Kōdansha- Verlag.

Her first longer series, the 580-page Sin Cosain Koi Sign , was published in the Bessatsu Friend from 1989 to 1990. This was followed by the 350-page Jesus Christ! 1991 and Oh! My Darling , which was published in 1,400 pages in the Bessatsu Friend from 1991 to 1994 . Angel Wars , which was first published in the Bessatsu Friend from 1994 to 1995 and has over 650 pages, is about a sixteen-year-old who wants to become a nun , but first visits her only relative. Glass no kodō tells of a teenager who joins the athletics club of her high school and finds her first love there.

Ueda's breakthrough came with Peach Girl , on which she worked from 1997 to 2003. The manga, which appeared in the Bessatsu Friend, only ended after more than 3,000 pages and sold over twelve million times in Japan. Peach Girl , for which the illustrator received the Kodansha Manga Prize in 1999 , was implemented as an anime television series in 2005 and translated into English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean, among others. It is about the high school student Momo Adachi, who is in love with the crush Kazuya, which her "best" friend Sae does not allow her.

Just a few months after Miwa Ueda graduated from Peach Girl in December 2003, she started a follow-up series to her greatest success to date. The sequel, titled Ura Peach Girl , describes Sae's love life. This manga ended in 2006.

From 2006 to 2009 Ueda drew the series Papillon - Hana to Chō for Bessatsu Friend about a girl who grew up in the country with her grandmother and who moves to the city to attend high school with her parents and her twin sister. The story was published and completed in 8 volumes.

The series Pure Mari from 2010, which comprises three volumes, and the manga Rokomoko , which started in December 2011 and is due to end in July 2012 , were also published in Bessatsu Friend .
