action

A girl is sold as a kamuro (little girl in training with a prostitute) in the entertainment and brothel district of Yoshiwara . There she comes under the care of the Oiran ( courtesan ) of the Tamakiku House ( 玉 菊 屋 , Tamakiku-ya ) Shōhi ( 粧 ひ ), whom she calls Tomeki . Since Tomeki is very rebellious, doesn't cry when you hit her, is rude and rude, the others think she would be a good Oiran, because they not only need beauty and talent, but also the tenacity to keep this position.

Then Tomeki first becomes O-Rin of a Hikkomi (prostitute in training) and finally Kiyoha ( き よ 葉 ), the prettiest girl in the Tamakiku house. Their popularity threatens the position of the current Tamakiku-Oiran Mikumo ( 三 雲 ), which leads to tension and jealousy between the two.

Kiyoha also had problems with the appearance of her suitor Sōjirō ( 惣 次郎 ) and the impossibility of love in this quarter.

Reviews

asianfilmweb said about this film:

“Anyone who liked Die Geisha will love Sakuran - Wild Cherry Blossom, because the view of slavery in the brothel appears less romanticized and more believable and therefore clearly relegates the novel by Die Geisha to second place, also because of the visual virtuosity. A very successful manga film adaptation. "

movie-college said about this movie:

“Sakuran is a film for the eye and it's nice to look at these pictures. However, I find it questionable whether such a topic is properly treated in this way. "
