Gustav Adolph Kietz

Gustav Adolph Kietz (born March 26, 1824 in Leipzig , † June 24, 1908 in Laubegast near Dresden ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Kietz was the younger brother of the portrait painter Ernst Benedikt Kietz . From 1841 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy . He was the most important student and assistant to Ernst Rietschel and worked in his studio in the Brühl garden pavilion in the execution of his main works (e.g. Lessing statue and Braunschweiger Quadriga ). Friedrich List's statue in Reutlingen was his first independent work in 1861. His life's work was characterized by extensive, expressive work. In 1864 he became an honorary member of the Dresden Art Academy, in 1873 he received an honorary doctorate (as Dr. phil. Hc ) from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .
