Ernst Anders (born March 26, 1845 in Magdeburg , † 1911 in Mölln ) was a German portrait and genre painter .

Life

Ernst Anders studied in Düsseldorf from 1860 to 1863 as a private student of the copper engraver Ludwig Heitland and Andreas Müller, and from autumn 1863 at the Academy in Düsseldorf with Carl Müller , Rudolf Wiegmann , Heinrich Mücke and in the painting classes of Carl Ferdinand Sohn and Julius Roeting . From January 1868 until 1872 he was a private student with Wilhelm Sohn . He then worked primarily as a genre painter, but largely earned his living with portrait commissions. The Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf ( Carl Maria Seyppel , charcoal drawing) and the artists' association Malkasten ( Johann Baptist Sonderland 1870), of which he was a member, as well as the Cologne City Museum ( Major von Gemmingen- Hornberg , 1892) keep portraits of his hand .
