Hermann Board

Hermann Board (born October 13, 1867 in Essen , † February 21, 1918 in Düsseldorf ) was a German architect and art historian .

Life

Hermann Board was the son of the master bricklayer Hermann Board († 1869) and attended the municipal secondary school in Essen. He then did a four-year apprenticeship as an architect and attended the municipal advanced training school in Essen, the commercial college in Cologne and the Technical University of Charlottenburg . He then spent seven years in the construction office of the Fried mining company . Krupp AG and also taught as a teacher in the construction classes at the municipal technical and advanced training schools in Essen. This was followed by four years as a freelance architect in Essen, before he studied art history at the University of Bonn with Paul Clemen , at the University of Strasbourg with Georg Dehio and at the University of Heidelberg with Henry Thode . In 1903 he was in Heidelberg with a dissertation on the Church of St. Mary in the Capitol in Cologne doctorate . In the same year he succeeded Friedrich Schaarschmidt as curator of the art collections, librarian and secretary of the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he also taught art history. In 1908 he received the title of professor.
