Ludwig Heitland

Ludwig Heitland (* 1837 in Düsseldorf ; † 1911 ibid) was a German painter , draftsman , engraver and illustrator of the Düsseldorf School , teacher at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and curator of the Düsseldorf City History Museum .

Life

Heitland studied from 1850 to 1864 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he was a student of Josef Wintergerst , Rudolf Wiegmann , Heinrich Mücke and above all of Joseph Keller , who trained him to be a copperplate engraver. In 1863 and 1864 he was a student in the Academy's master classes. Heitland was considered an excellent draftsman from an early age. From June 1, 1860 to 1864, he was an assistant teacher in the elementary class of Andreas Müller on the teaching staff of the Düsseldorf Academy. Heitland worked mainly as a copper, steel and wood engraver in the field of reproduction graphics . He provided numerous sheets for the Association for the Dissemination of Religious Images . From 1884 to 1893 he was the curator of the Historical Museum of the City of Düsseldorf.

Heitland was a member of the Düsseldorf History Association and the Association for Rhenish and Westphalian Folklore .
