Heinrich Karl Anton Mücke (born April 9, 1806 in Breslau , Silesia , † January 16, 1891 in Düsseldorf ) was a German history painter and graphic artist from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

After taking painting and drawing lessons from Johann Heinrich Christoph König the Elder. Ä. At the age of eighteen, he moved to the Berlin Art Academy , where he joined the Silesian student group around Wilhelm von Schadow . In 1826 he followed Schadow to the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Here he developed the almost forgotten fresco technique , supported by the Düsseldorf directors Peter Cornelius and Schadow. Due to a one-year work grant awarded to him by the Prussian state in 1833, he spent 1834/1835 mainly in the circle of the Nazarenes in Rome . There he found his thematic focus, the religious history picture. In 1844 Mücke exhibited in the art association for the Rhineland and Westphalia and at academy exhibitions in Berlin and Dresden. In 1844 he was hired to teach anatomy at the Düsseldorf Academy. In 1847 their son Karl was born, who was also to become a painter. In 1848 he was appointed professor . In that year he was one of the founders of the artists' association Malkasten . In the 1850s he made trips to England and Switzerland. In 1852 Mücke was decorated with the Order of the Red Eagle . After his retirement in 1867 he devoted himself mainly to graphic techniques and work.

Heinrich Mücke was a painter and teacher who was known and appreciated far beyond the borders of Germany. He died on January 16, 1891, honored and honored many times in Düsseldorf.
