Karl Mücke

Karl Emil Mücke , also Carl Mücke (born March 13, 1847 in Düsseldorf ; † April 27, 1923 there ), was a German genre and animal painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Mücke was born as the son of the painter Heinrich Mücke in Düsseldorf. From 1844 his father was a teacher of anatomy at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf , from 1848 a professor. At his father's academy, where he taught until 1867, Mücke studied from 1863 to 1870. After that he was a private student of the genre painter Wilhelm Sohn for a while . His cousin, Karl Rudolf Sohn , who was also a private student there, painted a portrait of Mücke in 1875. Like his father and almost all other painters in Düsseldorf, Mücke joined the artists' association Malkasten . From the 1870s to around 1890 he often stayed in the Netherlands , from 1877 to 1888 in Volendam , North Holland , where he found the motifs that were characteristic of his painting: genre representations of Dutch people in situations of everyday family life, often of women and men Children in traditional costumes , in the company of cats and dogs, in old Dutch interiors or by the sea. Mückes works were represented at exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Munich and Berlin. In 1889 he lived at Rethelstrasse 29 in Düsseldorf- Düsseltal .
