Life

Born to German parents in Warsaw, she began her stage career at the age of 16 in Plauen . In 1902 she went to Krefeld for a season , and in 1903 to Mainz . Martha Angerstein was engaged in Leipzig from 1904 to 1907 . In 1907 she went to the Carl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg . In 1910 she settled in Berlin to play at Victor Barnowsky's Little Theater. The following year, Martha Angerstein met her future husband, the actor Adolf Edgar Licho , who brought her to the Neue Volkstheater.

In 1912 the artist received offers for film roles from Meßter-Film. In the same year she was in the dramas Revenge is mine and Too late partner Harry Liedtke . A year later, Angerstein's husband Licho was her first film partner in Schuldig . Shortly thereafter, her film roles became smaller and smaller.

Martha Angerstein remained primarily a stage actress even during her film-active phase. In 1915/16 she played in Tilsit , but returned to the Residenz-Theater in Berlin in the following season . From 1917 to 1919 she was a member of the Royal Drama Ensemble . During this time she was seen as Marie under the direction of Lichos in the tragedy Armut , as the Fräulein in Walter Hasenclever's drama The Son and as partner Alexander Moissis in the Don Juan drama Unterwegs .

After two supporting roles in two early cinema productions of Lichos in the early 20s ( Kinder der Zeit, Tiefland ), the actress, who had performed her last stage festival engagement in Berlin's grandstand in the 1920/21 season , withdrew into private life.

After the seizure of power , her husband, who was half-Jewish according to the racial doctrine of the Nazis, went into exile, but she stayed behind in Berlin. For a while she stayed in Austria and Czechoslovakia, where she had friends. After the war she lived in Unterwössen . The date of her death is unknown.
