biography

Career

At the age of six he learned the piano and at the age of 14 bass guitar . At the age of twelve Tschuggnall won the most important local tennis tournaments in Tyrol and was Tyrolean champion. He had to give up his sporting ambitions for lack of time, as music education was more important to him. After his HTL -Matura (industrial engineering with a focus on business informatics , HTL Anichstraße Innsbruck) he began to study computer science at the University of Innsbruck , which he has now completed after a break. Tschuggnall is now working as a research assistant at the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, where he also completed his master’s and doctoral studies with distinction.

Musical career

With his own composition "Tears of Happiness" , which he presented to accompany at the piano, he won in 2003 the final of the ORF - casting show Starmania . Oddly enough, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. But since the South Tyrolean finalist Martin Perkmann gave up after the first final round, Tschuggnall was allowed to take his place after a voting.

In March 2003 he reached the top of the Austrian charts with this single. In 2004 he was nominated three times for an Amadeus .

His debut album "Michael Tschuggnall" only contained three original compositions. It reached number 2 in the Austrian charts and stayed there for ten weeks. Since his second single did not make it into the Top40, it was called a flop. After that it became quiet about Michael Tschuggnall. The success of the then runner-up Christina Stürmer continued, however, which is why the media wrote off Michael as a " one-hit wonder ". But in the summer of 2004 he contributed the title song to the ORF show Expedition Austria - "No way too far", however, did not get above a 44th place in the charts. He also contributed two group songs to Starmania NG - the second season of Starmania.

Michael worked on his second album "Phoenix" for over a year. He composed and produced this album himself. Since Universal showed no interest in a release, however, he released the album on the small label Fechter GmbH , a subsidiary of Edel Records . This work (two songs are composed in 7/8 time) only reached rank 52 in the Austrian charts. In 2005 he released the single "Europe" on the same label on the occasion of the Austrian EU Council Presidency.

In the spring of March 2007 he tried to gain media coverage by participating in the third season of Dancing Stars , an ORF dance show . His dance partner was Alice Guschlbauer, multiple Tyrolean national champion and Austrian champion. He reached fourth place out of ten participants.

His brother Christian Tschuggnall is a drummer who plays with the band Bluatschink from the Lechtal in Tyrol.
