Fredy Reyna

Fredy Reyna (born April 3, 1917 in Caracas ; † March 26, 2001 there ; full name Federico Reyna Revenga ) was a Venezuelan cuatro player and music teacher.

Life

Reyna had private guitar lessons from Raúl Borges from 1933 . From 1935 he studied guitar at the Escuela de Musica y Declamación in Caracas; He also studied from 1936 to 1939 at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas .

From 1939 he taught at the Escuela Experimental Venezuela , later Liceo Andres Bello , the Instituto Escuela , the Liceo Luis Espelozín (1945-1946) and the Liceo Caracas (1945-1947). In 1947 he studied stage technology in Paris at the Ecole d'Art Apliqueé a l'Industrie de París with Max Bertrand and attended a puppet theater course with Gastón Baty .

After his return to Venezuela in 1948, he switched from guitar to cuatro and made recordings with the harpist Ignacio Figueredo . In 1949 he became director of the Escuela de Marionetas of the Venezuelan Ministry of Culture and founded the Teatro de Títeres with his wife Lolita Páez .

During this time he developed his own mood for the Cuatro and wrote the Venezuelan Cuatro Method . From 1958 to 1966 he stayed in Europe, where he gave concerts and studied the European lute literature of the Renaissance. In the following years he gave concerts in Venezuela, the countries of the Caribbean and the USA and played numerous recordings a. a. with Alirio Díaz , Conny Méndez and Morella Muñoz .

In the 1970s, Reyna founded the Museo del Cuatro . In 1978 the Fundación Fredy Reyna , founded on the occasion of his 60th birthday, began its work, which is dedicated to promoting education in music, theater and sculpture. In 1990 he received the Premio Nacional de Cultura Popular . In 1996, his second Cuatro textbook appeared under the title Alfa, Beta, Cuatro .
