Life

Borges had guitar lessons with Salvador N. Llamozas and Eduardo Richter since 1895 and perfected his guitar playing autodidactically according to the method of Ferdinando Carulli . Since 1910 he gave guitar lessons himself and in 1915 founded the Círculo Musical . From 1920 he worked as secretary of the Venezuelan embassy in Paris.

In 1932 he founded a chair for guitar at the Escuela de Música y Declamación (today Escuela de Música José Ángel Lamas ), which he held until 1952. As a teacher, he benefited from the exchange of experiences with the Paraguayan guitarist Agustín Barrios Mangoré , whom he had met in 1932. He had a formative influence on the Venezuelan guitar music of the 20th century. His students included Maria Corma Moreno , Flaminia Montenegro , Froila Pacanins , Jose Rafael Cisneros , Antonio Ochoa , Rómulo Lazarde , Alirio Díaz , Rodrigo Riera , Antonio Lauro , Manuel Enrique Pérez Díaz and Fredy Reyna .
