Hans Kahrmann (born February 18, 1908 in Fulda ; † March 26, 1973 there ) was a German motorcycle racing driver .

Career

Kahrmann competed in races at the age of 17 and took part in the first edition of Rund um Schotten . In 1926 he won the race for the first time in the sidecar class . In the early 1930s, he was a steady starter in the championship races on his Hercules .

In 1931 and 1932 Hans Kahrmann was German champion in the 250 cm³ class on Hercules . In 1931 the title was awarded twice. In addition to the Fulda also came DKW - factory rider Arthur Geiss to championship honors.

In 1934, Kahrmann became German mountain champion on a 600 cm³ Imperia together with Hans Witzel. From the same season he started as a works driver for the DKW works. At the start of the season in the Hanoverian Eilenriede , Kahrmann finished second in the quarter liter race behind his team mate Walfried Winkler from Chemnitz . Six weeks later, at the Eifel race on the Nürburgring , he achieved the first solo victory for the Zschopau on the 250cc .

From 1935 onwards, Hans Kahrmann started almost exclusively in the sidecar class. He mostly drove on the larger 1000 cc combination and drove numerous victories together with his co-drivers Franz Höller and Heinrich Eder. In 1936 and 1937 the duo won the German road championship in the 1000 team class. At the European motorcycle championship in 1937 , which took place on July 3 and 4, 1937 in Bremgarten near Bern ( Switzerland ) as part of the XIII. The Swiss Grand Prix was held on the 7.28-kilometer Bremgarten circuit , Kahrmann / Eder took second place behind their brand companions Hans Schumann / Julius Beer and thus became vice European champions .

The increased number of serious sidecar accidents in 1936 and 1937 - for example, Kahrmann's DKW teammates Karl Braun and Toni Babl as well as Albert Schneider , Hans Schneider and Josef Lohner fatally - prompted the National Socialist Motor Corps as the highest motor sports authority in Germany to ban all sidecar races for 1938. Hans Kahrmann then ended his active career.

He died in 1973 at the age of 65 in his hometown of Fulda.
