Race courses

In the 250 cc class, the 31-year-old could Moto-Guzzi - factory driver Omobono Tenni secure his first title after 40 rounds. Second was his compatriot Nello Pagani , also on Moto Guzzi. The DKW factory drivers Ewald Kluge and Walfried Winkler , who are now in the lead, achieved third and fourth place after technical problems. In 1937 the Italian Tenni also won the quarter-liter run at the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man , the world's most difficult motorcycle race at the time, and thus became the first ever non- British TT winner.

In the classes up to 350 and up to 500 cm³, the English Norton factory team was unbeatable as in the previous year . The now 40-year-old Jimmie Guthrie from Scotland secured both titles in front of his teammate Freddie Frith . For Guthrie it was the European title number three and four, in the half-liter class he won for the third time in a row. Only five weeks later, the Scot had a serious accident at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring and died a little later.

The German manufacturer DKW was successful in both sidecar categories . In the 600cc class, the duo Karl Braun / Erwin Badsching celebrated a superior start-finish victory in front of two local teams. A few weeks later, the two had a serious accident in the Schleiz triangle race . While Badsching was uninjured, Braun succumbed to his serious injuries. In the big class there was a double victory for the Zschopauer . Hans Schumann / Julius Beer won safely ahead of Hans Kahrmann / Heinrich Eder, who benefited from the fall of the Swiss couple Hans and Cilly strengkle ( NSU ), who were fighting for victory in the meantime . Paul Weyres completed the German triple victory on a Harley-Davidson .
