European motorcycle championship 1935

The titles of the European motorcycle championship in 1935 were at the XII. The FICM Grand Prize was awarded on August 24, 1935 in County Antrim near Belfast as part of the XVI. Ulster Grand Prix was held on the 20.5 mile Clady Circuit .

The European Grand Prix took place for the first time as part of the Ulster Grand Prix .

Race courses

In the 250 cm³ class, DKW pilot Arthur Geiss won the only European Championship title of his career at the age of 32. Shortly after the start, the Hockenheimer took the lead, lost it again on lap three and fought back a few laps later with two record laps. After a refueling stop and a spark plug change , Geiss was back in second place. After the leading Englishman Bob Foster also had to refuel on the New Imperial , the German took the lead again and finally crossed the finish line with a 25-second lead over Foster. Arthur Geiss was becoming the first non- Briton , who with a non-British machine could win the since 1922 discharged Ulster Grand Prix.

The 350cc barrel became a purely British affair. 33-year-old Wal Handley won ahead of Ernie Thomas , both on Velocette . Third was Johnny Duncan Norton . For Handley it was already the third European title of his career.

The 38-year-old Scot Jimmie Guthrie celebrated his first European title in the half -liter class. The Norton - factory driver won despite a fall of more than three minutes ahead of the Belgian FN pilots René Milhoux .
