European motorcycle championship 1948

The titles of the European motorcycle championship in 1948 were at the XVIII. Awarded the FICM Grand Prix , held on August 21, 1948 in County Antrim near Belfast as part of the 20th Ulster Grand Prix on the 16.5-mile Clady Circuit .

The European Grand Prix took place for the second time as part of the Ulster Grand Prix . For the time being, the last time the FICM, from which the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme emerged in 1949 , awarded motorcycle European titles. From the 1949 season , the motorcycle world championship was announced. Only in 1981 was a European motorcycle championship held again, which has since taken place under the umbrella of the Union Européenne de Motocyclisme .

Race courses

Over the 250 cc class of the 37-year-old was victorious Briton Maurice Cann on Moto Guzzi . The other places went to the two Northern Irish Excelsior pilots Jock McCredie and Harold Kirby .

In the 350cc race there was a triple victory for Velocette . It won Freddie Frith from England before Ken Bills and Frank Fry . The following year, 38-year-old Frith also became the first 350 cm³ world champion in history on a Velocette .

The 37-year-old Italian Moto Guzzi works driver Enrico Lorenzetti became the half-liter European champion . The Roman relegated Johnny Lockett ( Norton ) and the later 500cc World Champion Leslie Graham ( AJS ) to their places.
