Career

successes

The Düsseldorf Albert Schneider won on a 350 cc - Velocette - team in 1931 and 1932 respectively, the Eifel race on the Nürburgring and the Avusrennen on the Berliner AVUS in the 350cc category, thus securing in both years the German Championship . In 1933 he won the Eilenriederennen in Hanover and the Schottenring, among others . From 1934 Albert Schneider competed for NSU and was victorious in the Hockenheim motorcycle race on the Hockenheimer Dreieck , among others .

Deadly accident

Albert Schneider had a fatal accident on August 30, 1936 at the age of 36 while training for the ADAC mountain record on the Schauinsland near Freiburg im Breisgau . He lost control of his NSU team in the Geißhübel curve and crashed into the stone wall at the edge of the track. He suffered severe head injuries, which he succumbed to on the same day. His co-driver Wilhelm Colle got away with a broken leg.

The accumulated serious sidecar accidents in 1936 and 1937 - in addition to Albert Schneider, for example, Toni Babl , Josef Lohner , Hans Schneider and Karl Braun also had fatal accidents - prompted the National Socialist Motor Corps as the highest motor sports authority in Germany to ban all sidecar races in Germany for 1938. On some racetracks like the Solitude, the Schleizer Dreieck and on the Feldberg, racing was even completely stopped. Sidecar races were only allowed again after the Second World War .
