The AVUS race for motorcycles was an international motorcycle racing , which on the non-permanent circuit of AVUS in Berlin was held from 1922 to 1966.

route

history

The first AVUS race for motorcycles took place on June 10, 1922. The race quickly established itself in the capital, also attracted foreign riders and became part of the German motorcycle road championship held from 1924 . In 1924, two AVUS races were held for the first time in one year, a spring and an autumn race.

On September 27, 1925, the AVUS autumn race was announced as the first German Grand Prix . The 1926 autumn race and the 1933 edition were also organized as the German Grand Prix. In 1930, the Great Spa Prize of Germany was awarded at the AVUS race , and in 1931 and 1932 the Grand Prize of the City of Berlin. In 1935, 1937 and 1938 the motorcycle race was held together with the automobile race. The AVUS race retained its internationally significant status until the Second World War .

In 1951, the racing events were resumed for the first time after the end of the war, after the political situation in the divided city had sorted itself out somewhat.

In 1963, the AVUS race was a 24-hour race as part of the European endurance championship. After 1966 there were no more motorcycle races at the AVUS.
