Kurt Friedrich (racing driver)

Kurt Friedrich (born December 19, 1901 in Chemnitz ; † August 30, 1995 there ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Kurt Friedrich began motorcycle racing after the end of the First World War . In 1922 he took part in the first motorcycle races on the Berlin AVUS . In the 1920s, Kurt Friedrich won several "Grand Prix" at home and abroad and also won the German Road Motorbike Championship .

Career

When the motorcycle competitions started at the Berlin AVUS in June 1922, Friedrich drove a DKW . Two weeks later he was on the podium after the races at the Rüsselsheim Opel racetrack . He achieved excellent results in the early imperial and multi-day trips. His first major victories came in 1926 within a few weeks. First he won with the DKW ARe 175 at the end of June on the Marienberger Dreieck , then at the swimming pool race in Kołobrzeg, now Poland, and finally at the German Grand Prix at the AVUS .

Abroad, Kurt Friedrich won the Austrian Grand Prix in 1927 and the Hungarian Tourist Trophy in 1928 and 1929 in the 175 class. In 1929 he won the German motorcycle championship in the quarter liter category after victories in Marienberg , on the Stuttgart Solitude and on the Schleizer Dreieck . After these successes, however, Friedrich ended his career.

Friedrich is buried in a Chemnitz suburb cemetery.
