Career

Ernst Zündorf lived in Cologne during his active time . He contested his first race in July 1922 on the Tivoli Railway in Strasbourg . From this international competition he immediately emerged as the winner on a 500 cm³ Puch with belt drive he had prepared himself . The following year he won other races on a motorcycle from the little-known English brand Ricardo .

In 1924, Zündorf was the overall winner of the Swinoujscie bathing race and won the Great Challenge of Germany . He drove a Zenith with a JAP built -in engine in the class up to 1000 cm³. This success put him in the front row of the best drivers in Germany. Also at DMV - spring race on the Berliner AVUS 1925 he won the large class - again on a British machine, this time it was a Brough Superior .

Zündorf was almost 30 years old when he took second place behind favorite Toni Bauhofer in the new 500cc two-cylinder DKW at the Eifel race for the opening of the Nürburgring in June 1927 . In 1928 he achieved his first major DKW victory at the Berlin AVUS. At the end of May at the Nürburgring, Zündorf won the 500 cc class in the Eifel race and was overall winner. In the Karlsruhe Wildlife Park Race , he achieved the fastest time of the day. In 1929, Zündorf celebrated a start-to-finish victory in the half-liter race on the Marienberger Dreieck , leaving BMW driver Ernst Jakob Henne behind.

Despite a leaky cooler , Ernst Zündorf won the 500cc race for the Eilenriederennen in Hanover on a DKW at the 1930 championship opener .  Zündorf was also successful in the third championship run - the Solitude race in Stuttgart - this time with a BMW. But at the end of August at the German Railroad Championships, he brought several Zschopau DKW machines to the start. After he had achieved numerous successes in track races in Heide and on the Opelbahn in Rüsselsheim since 1927, he finished third in 1930 with the 175 and 350 cc, and Zündorf won the German championship title on the half-liter DKW.

Ernst Zündorf died on January 1st, 1964 in Bensberg near Cologne at the age of 66.
