Blackburne was a British engine and motorcycle manufacturer .

The engineers Cecil and Alec Burney built in their company Burney Blackburne Ltd. - initially in Berkhamsted , later in Tongham , Surrey , and finally at Atlas Works, Bookham, Surrey - from 1908 to 1937 under the brand name Blackburne, in addition to complete motorcycles, mainly built-in engines , which were installed in countless British and other European motorcycle brands. They bought plans for a machine from Geoffrey de Havilland . At the end of 1921 motorcycle construction was transferred to OEC in Gosport, and the Burney brothers left the company. Engine construction continued until 1937.

The Blackburne engines were used in the brands at AWD , Bücker , Chater-Lea , Calthorpe , Cotton , Coventry-Eagle , Göricke , Imperia , Magnat-Debon , Mammut , Motobécane , Nestoria , Terrot , Württembergia , Ziejanü .

There are side and top-controlled input and V- two-cylinder engines with displacements of 174, 196, 250, 300, 350, 500, 550, 600, and 1,000 cc, partly with external flywheel manufactured and sold. For competition purposes, special overhead racing engines with 174, 248, 348, 496 cm³ displacement were also successfully produced.
