Erich Pätzold ( bl. 1920s and 1930s) was a German motorcycle and automobile racing driver .

Career

The Cologne Erich Paetzold launched in the first half of the 1920s for Imperia , in Bad Godesberg were located. In June 1924 he won the 350 cm³ class of the first German motorcycle road championship of the ADAC . In this and the following year, the ADAC and the DMV held separate championships. The ADAC determined the German champions in 1924 in just one race as part of the Schleizer triangle race . In 1925 Pätzold won the DMV title in the 750 category, in 1928 he became the 350 cc master for the second time in his career on Sunbeam - meanwhile only one title has been awarded.

The Nürburgring was particularly close to him, here he won the Eifel race in 1924 on a 350 cm³ Imperia, in 1925 on a 750 cm³ Imperia, in 1926 on a 750 cm³ Scott and in 1929 on a 350 and 500 cm³ Sunbeam the Eifel race or its predecessor Tour of the Eifel and the German Grand Prix . In 1925 Pätzold won the triangle trip in the Erzgebirge on the Marienberger Dreieck in the Erzgebirge solo in the class up to 750 cm³ and in the team class up to 1000 cm³, both on Imperia. In 1928 he won the AVUS in Berlin with a 350 Sunbeam.

Pätzold also demonstrated his versatility in other motorsport disciplines, for example in 1929 on NSU in the German Silver Vase Team in the 11th International Six-Day Race and was also successful in track races in Heide .

In 1936 Erich Pätzold won the Feldberg race on the Großer Feldberg im Taunus in the supercharged sports car class in a 2-liter Ford . In the same year he wanted to find out how fast a motorist can actually get on the motorway under optimal conditions. With a Ford V8 built in Cologne , he drove three passengers on the A 5 between Frankfurt and Bruchsal three times (total distance: 652 kilometers) and took five and a half hours with two refueling breaks.
