Christian Minkowitsch

Christian Minkowitsch (born October 26, 1962 in Vienna ; † March 26, 2018 in Ebensee ) was an Austrian composer .

biography

Christian Minkowitsch received private piano lessons when he was seven and organ lessons from Franz Kollment when he was 15. He later studied composition with Dietmar Schermann , composition with Heinrich Gattermeyer and Erich Urbanner at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . He lived in Vienna and has been teaching composition, composition and composition techniques of the 20th and 21st centuries at the Vienna Conservatory (now the Vienna University of Music and Art ) .

In 1988 he took part in the Darmstadt summer courses, from 1988 to 1992 he was keyboardist in the improvisation group "Things of NowNow" , which also included Lukas Ligeti , Friedrich Neubarth and Alexander Wagendristel . Until 2003 he worked as an organist in Greifenstein / Donau and parish Neusimmering, Vienna, and was particularly noticeable as an improviser because of his concerts . He was the composer of numerous chamber music, solo and orchestral works with performances at home and abroad.

On March 26, 2018, Minkowitsch was killed in a traffic accident in the Bartlkreuz tunnel in Ebensee, Upper Austria.
