Heinrich Gattermeyer

Heinrich Gattermeyer (born July 9, 1923 in Sierning ; † July 5, 2018 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer and music teacher .

Life

Gattermeyer, son of the local poet Karl Gattermeyer, graduated from the Linz Academic High School in 1941 and was then called up for military service. After the war he studied at the music academy and the university in Vienna (for teaching). Gattermeyer initially taught at Viennese grammar schools and from 1964 at the Vienna Academy for Music and Performing Arts .

Gattermeyer was President of the Austrian Society for Contemporary Music for eleven years from 1973 , from 1984 to 1990 President of the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers , from 1992 to 2001 President of the Austrian Composers' Association and since 1996 was President of the Cathedral Music Society at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna . Gattermeyer also worked as a choir director with several Viennese choirs, including from 1960 to 1973 with the Wiener Schubertbund .
