Rainer Bishop

Rainer Bischof (born June 20, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian composer and music manager .

Life

Bischof studied composition and conducting at the Vienna University of Music from 1965 to 1967. From 1967, he studied for five years with Hans Erich Apostel . In addition, Bishop studied law , philosophy, art history and education at the University of Vienna from 1965–1973 . From 1984 to 1988 he worked in the cultural office of the City of Vienna, and from 1984 to 1986 he presided over the Austrian Composers' Association . Since 1986 he has been Vice President of the Alban Berg Foundation. From 1988 onwards, Bishop was General Secretary of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra , and from 1991–2015 President of the International Gustav Mahler Society .

Since 1987, Bischof has also been a lecturer at the Vienna University of Music and has been internationally active as a guest lecturer at various universities. Since 1996 he has been leading a composition class at the Vienna Conservatory .
