Johannes Kretz

Johannes Kretz (born May 8, 1968 in Vienna ) is an Austrian composer and teacher of computer music and music theory . He lives and works in Vienna and composes in the field of new classical music, including music theater and orchestral works, chamber music, church music and electronic music.

education

From 1986 to 1995 Kretz studied composition and music education at the Vienna University of Music (with F. Burt and M. Jarrell) and mathematics at the University of Vienna. 1992–1993 he conducted studies on computer music at IRCAM, Paris, with Marco Stroppa and Brian Ferneyhough, among others.

Artistic

Kretz received commissions from the Wiener Konzerthaus , Klangforum Wien , ensemble xx, among others . century, ensemble online, Vienna Flautists, quartett22, International Lemgoer Organ Days, Haller Bach Days, Triton Trombone Quartet, Vienna Chamber Choir. He also had performances in Austria , Germany , France , Hungary , Lithuania , Poland , Turkey , South Korea and Argentina . He is a founding member of the NewTonEnsemble and the international composer group PRISMA. In 2020 he succeeded Alexander Kukelka as President of the Austrian Association of Composers (ÖKB).

Educational

1996–2001 Kretz was a teacher of composition / composition at the Vienna Conservatory. Since 1997 he has been a teacher of computer music at the Vienna University of Music , since 2001 also composition , form theory and ear training , and since 2004 composition . From 1994 to 2003 he worked as an assistant / professor for computer music at the International Bartok Seminar in Szombathely ( Hungary ). In 2005/06 Kretz was visiting professor for ecclesiastical composition at the Graz University of Art.
