Guccio Gucci (born March 26, 1881 in Florence , † January 2, 1953 in Milan ) was an Italian entrepreneur and the founder of the fashion brand Gucci .

Life

As a teenager, Gucci worked for a while as an elevator operator at the Savoy Hotel in London . There he slowly developed a feeling for aesthetic fashion through daily contact with the wealthy hotel guests and their luggage.

In 1921 he started a small shop for equestrian equipment, mainly saddles, in Florence. In 1947 he started the production of fashion and jewelry, which he sold under the Gucci label, which is still known today.

After his death in 1953, his four sons continued the business: Aldo, Vasco, Ugo and Rodolfo (1912–1983, actor under the stage name Maurizio D'Ancora). He also had two daughters with his wife Aida Calvelli.
