Bernhard Karl Heinrich von Prittwitz and Gaffron (born March 26, 1796 at Gut Kreisewitz , Brieg district , † January 21, 1881 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and commandant of the Thorn Fortress .

Life

Bernhard Karl Heinrich came from the old, widely branched Silesian noble family of the von Prittwitz family . He was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister , district administrator and state elder Ernst von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1743-1831), landlord on Kreisewitz, and his second wife Johanna, née von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1761-1832). He was the younger brother of the Prussian infantry general Moritz von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1795–1885). The district president Robert von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1806-1889) was his younger brother.

Military career

After attending the Liegnitz Knight Academy at the outbreak of the Wars of Liberation in 1813, Prittwitz joined the Silesian Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army and was promoted to Second Lieutenant until October 1815 . Artillery one. After the war he was transferred to the Guards Artillery Brigade in Berlin in May 1816 and promoted to Prime Lieutenant in May 1825 . On August 16, 1825, Prittwitz took his leave and was the owner of a steel works in Rohnau near Landeshut in Lower Silesia .

When the November Revolution broke out in Poland in the winter of 1830, he was drafted into the Landwehr and from mid-February 1831 employed in the 5th Artillery Brigade for the duration of the mobilization . With a patent from January 21st, 1832 taken back into active service, Prittwitz was on October 10th, 1833 captain and boss of the fortress reserve artillery company in Luxembourg . From July 11, 1843 to February 12, 1847 he was an artillery officer there and then joined the 4th Artillery Brigade . With promotion to major and aggregation of the 8th Artillery Brigade, Prittwitz was appointed commander of the fortress reserve artillery department in Mainz on May 5, 1848 . In this position he rose to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1853 . On May 18, 1854 he became the commandant of Thorn. On March 1, 1855, Prittwitz moved to the War Ministry in Berlin as head of the department for artillery affairs and became colonel in mid-July 1855 . Under position à la suite of the War Ministry, he was again Commander of Thorn on November 15, 1855. In this position, Prittwitz received the character of Major General on May 31, 1859 . After being awarded the Order of the Red Eagle , he was finally put up for disposal on May 13, 1861 with the statutory pension .

He spent his retirement in Breslau.

family

He married Selma von Korckwitz (1811–1874) from the House of Lampersdorf on August 20, 1831 in Brieg . She was a daughter of the landowner Friedrich Wilhelm Erdmann von Korckwitz, landlord of the Lampersdorf and Molsehnen estates, and Antoinette von Wallenrodt . The couple had several children:

  • Anton Johannes (1836–1874), Major a. D. ⚭ October 12, 1869 Baron Agnes Natalie von Meerscheidt-Huellessem (1837–1899)
  • Marie Antoinette (1839–1925) ⚭ September 24, 1857 Wilhelm Zeidler (1826–1905), councilor in Berlin
