history

Church of St. Catherine
Marciszów Railway Station

Merzdorf was probably founded around 1300 and called "villa Martini" in Latin. The St. Catherine Church was first mentioned in 1335. It belonged to the Duchy of Schweidnitz and came with this after the death of Duke Bolko II in 1368 as an inheritance to the crown of Bohemia . Probably after the Hussite Wars it was owned by the von Zedlitz family . Hans von Zedlitz is documented as the owner in 1524, Abraham von Zedlitz in 1571. There was another change of ownership after the Thirty Years War . In 1696 it was owned by Georg Ernst von Berg, who was followed by Georg Sigismund von Tschirnhaus. In 1706, the imperial count Hans Heinrich III acquired Merzdorf. from Hochberg to Fürstenstein ; later it was administered by the Hochbergschen sideline on Rohnstock .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Merzdorf and most of Silesia fell to Prussia . In 1785 it consisted of a manor, two outworks as well as 12 gardeners and six cottages . It was around this time that home weaving gained importance. After the reorganization of Prussia, Merzdorf belonged to the province of Silesia since 1815 and was incorporated into the Landeshut district from 1816 to 1945. For the year 1840 66 houses, one Protestant and one Catholic church, a Protestant school, a mill, a sawmill, four Kretschmer and 57 looms are proven. In 1867 Merzdorf was connected to the Görlitz – Waldenburg railway line and in 1915 to the Ruhbank – Liebau railway line . In 1939 there were 1480 inhabitants. In 1944, a subcamp of the Groß Rosen concentration camp was set up in Merzdorf for female forced laborers .

As a result of the Second World War , Merzdorf fell to Poland in 1945 together with almost all of Silesia and was renamed Marciszów . The German population was expelled from 1945–1947. Some of the newly settled residents were displaced from eastern Poland . 1975-1998 Marciszów belonged to the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship .

On the outer walls there are epitaphs of the von Zedlitz family members from the second half of the 16th century.
