Sędzisław ( German  Ruhbank ) is a village in the rural community Marciszów ( Merzdorf in the Giant Mountains ) in the powiat Kamiennogórski (state hat in Silesia ) of the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia .

Geographical location

Sędzisław is located in the Polish part of the Giant Mountains at the foot of the 692 m high Krąglak ( Kregler ) about seven kilometers northeast of the district town of Kamienna Góra (state hat ). The river Lesk ( Lässig ), a right tributary of the Bober ( Bóbr in Polish ), flows south of the village and flows into it not far west of Sędzisław.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1399 as "Ruhbank". In 1765 the place name "Ruhbanck" was written, from 1785 the name form "Ruhbank" was used. Originally, Ruhbank belonged to the Duchy of Schweidnitz , which was part of Prussia from the First Silesian War in 1742 . From 1703 the place was a fiefdom of the Grüssau monastery , which was dissolved in the course of secularization in 1810.

In 1867 the place was connected to the railway network as part of the construction of a railway line from Waldenburg to Hirschberg . In 1869 a junction was opened to Liebau near the border, in 1875 the line to Trautenau in Bohemia was extended.

As a result of the Second World War , the place was placed under Polish administration in 1945, like almost all of Silesia, and was given the Polish name Sędzisław . The native German population fled or was expelled .

In Sędzisław the branches railway Sędzisław-Lubawka , which since 2008 in passenger Jelenia Góra ( Hirschberg ) Trutnov ( Trutnov ) in the Czech Republic is operated by the railway Wrocław Świebodzki-Zgorzelec from. The DK 5 road runs west of the village and leads from Wroclaw via Kamienna Góra (state hat ) to the Polish-Czech border.

In 2009 the church of Sędzisław was mentioned in the Lower Silesian local media because it was allegedly haunted by a ghost.
