Specialist lawyer for family law

The specialist lawyer for family law is a specialist lawyer designation of the German professional law of lawyers .

The designation of specialist lawyer for family law was introduced by the 1st constitutional assembly of the Federal Bar Association at its 1st meeting on September 7th - 9th, 1995.

Legal areas of training

In terms of content, the title is defined by the areas of law named in Section 12 of the Specialist Lawyers' Ordinance (FAO), in relation to which the lawyer holding the specialist lawyer title must prove special knowledge. The following must be proven:

1. substantive marriage, family and child law , including family law references to inheritance , company , social and tax law and public law , unmarried partnerships and registered partnerships ,

2. Family law procedural and cost law ,

3. international private law in family law,

4. Theory and practice of family law mandate processing and contract drafting.

In order to acquire the title of specialist lawyer for family law, as with all specialist lawyer titles, proof of special practical experience is also required. Here, § 5 sentence 1 lit. e FAO proof of 120 cases handled by the applicant, of which at least half must be judicial proceedings.

As of January 1, 2018, 9,529 specialist lawyers were admitted in Germany, making it the second largest specialist lawyer in terms of numbers after the specialist lawyer for labor law .
