ATM forum

Founded in 1991, ATM Forum was an international non-profit organization , the private from various manufacturers data processing and telecommunications technology , the ATM wanted to promote technology, was founded. Since 2005 it has been part of the IP / MPLS Forum ( Internet Protocol / Multiprotocol Label Switching ), also a non-profit organization to which the Frame Relay Forum and the MPLS Forum belong.

Any manufacturer, network operator or user could become a member. Virtually all of the major manufacturers of telecommunications equipment were members, as were major users, such as the US Department of Defense . At its most active time, the number of member companies was over 500. The main focus of the work was the standardization of ATM technology, which is carried out by "Technical Committees". To this end, the members usually met every two months, five times a year in North America and once in Europe.
