AVC-Ultra

AVC-Ultra is a format family developed by Panasonic for lossy video compression . AVC-Ultra is compatible with the H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC standard and supports resolutions up to 4K , color depths up to 12bit ( 4: 4: 4 ) and data rates up to 800 Mbit / s.

Panasonic uses P2 memory cards as the recording medium and stores the data in the MXF or mov container format . In addition to Panasonic itself, other software and hardware manufacturers also support this format, such as B. Adobe , Avid or matrox .

history

Panasonic introduced the AVC-Intra format family in 2007 , which allowed resolutions up to Full HD and data rates up to 100 Mbps. All variants of AVC-Intra were based on the intra-frame coding of the H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC standard.

In 2013, the previously independent format family AVC-Intra was integrated into the new format family AVC-Ultra . AVC-Ultra supports both intra-frame coding (under the name AVC-Intra) and inter-frame coding (under the names AVC-LongG and AVC-Proxy). Since the introduction of AVC-Ultra, more intra-frame encoders have been added, which continue to be referred to as AVC-Intra.
