A Camp is the solo project of Nina Persson , singer of the Swedish pop group The Cardigans .

Band history

The idea for the A Camp project came about in 1997 when Nina Persson was sitting in a bar with the Swedish musician Niclas Frisk . In a lively discussion, the two found overlaps in their record collections. Then they decided to write some songs together.

But it wasn't until three years later, after finishing work on the Cardigans fourth album, Gran Turismo , that Nina Persson recorded these songs in the studio. The album A Camp was created with Mark Linkous under the Stockholm music label .

While Gran Turismo was musically darker, the album A Camp reflects Persson's penchant for combining ironic lyrics with cheerfully tinged music. On the album, Persson decided to record most of the songs in a country style.

Two singles were released from the album: I Can Buy You and Song For The Leftovers . The first of the two hit the UK charts in September 2001.

This album was initially the only release from A Camp. Persson began working with her colleagues from the Cardigans on the band's fifth album, Long Gone Before Daylight , which was released in the summer of 2003. Musically it is clearly inspired by Persson's solo project.

On May 5, 2007, the Cardigans' official website announced that Persson had begun writing a second A Camp album. This was finally given the title Colonia and appeared in January 2009.
