A Escola (Portuguese: The School ) is a drama written by Miguel M. Abrahão , published and first performed in Brazil in 1983 . The historical drama is his best known stage work, for which he published a novel in 2007 .

The plot of the book takes place in the 1930s during the dictatorship of the Getúlio Dornelles Vargas government . “Professor Bolivar Bueno”, with dangerous ideas for the epoch in which he lived, exercises strong emotional control over the students at the conservative “Wolfgang Schubert” elementary school. He fights the intrigues of the director, "Reverend Otto Stockhausen", and his assistant, Miss Catarina.

In 2005 the author rewritten the play as a novel and published it in 2007 with a new introduction. In the novel, Abrahão expands the historical background to include the constitutionalist revolt in São Paulo in 1932, the conflict between communism and fascism and the communist conspiracy of 1935.
