Ab durch die Mitte - The fastest quiz in the world (in short: Ab durch die Mitte ) was a German quiz show from the private broadcaster Sat.1 , which was scheduled for a four-week test run Monday to Friday in the station's evening program from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. should be broadcast, but after a three-week test run it was terminated on July 20 instead of July 27, 2012. As of August 11, 2012, the remaining five episodes were broadcast on Saturdays at 7.15 p.m. It was moderated by Daniel Boschmann . The target group of the show, which was produced by Endemol , was the group of 14 to 49 year olds.

concept

A candidate is elected who has ten opponents in front of him. Before each round he chooses a new opponent. All players are briefly introduced with their first name, place of residence and occupation. In a round, the candidate and the opponent must alternately answer a question within 20 seconds that is asked by the moderator. The time is already running when the question is asked. If the opponent does not manage to answer a question in the time limit, he falls through a trapdoor and the candidate has one less opponent. Then a sign is revealed in the former place of the opponent, which shows how much money the candidate gets for the defeated opponent. The sum is always between one and 4,000 euros. If the candidate manages all ten opponents, he receives 50,000 euros. But if the candidate does not manage to answer the question within 20 seconds, he has lost and the opponent receives the money from the candidate. The profit is between one and a maximum of 50,000 euros. The questions are roughly assigned to the area of general knowledge and proverbs or idioms. The number of letters is given by the correct answer. In addition, some letters are already given, similar to a crossword puzzle .

Slide

The candidate has a total of three times to leave a question to the opponent if he does not know the answer. The opponents do not have this option.

After the 6th round

When the candidate has beaten six opponents, they can decide whether to stop or continue. If he stops, he gets the money already earned and a new game with another candidate begins.

Production and broadcast

At the 2012/13 program presentation, Sat.1 announced that the evening program would be changed. Initially, only 20 episodes of the new quiz show were ordered and 15 episodes were broadcast from July 2 to July 20, 2012. On July 19, 2012, it was announced that the test programming would be terminated prematurely after only three weeks because the audience ratings were below the station average. On July 24, 2012 it was announced that the remaining five episodes would be broadcast on Saturdays at 7.15 p.m. from August 11, 2012 and this also happened.

reception

criticism

““ Off through the middle ”has only one really big problem: the lack of variety. Achieving convincing ratings for even four weeks with just a single game will be a major challenge - if not an almost impossible one. In general, however, it is certainly one of the few commendable productions that Sat.1 has let loose on viewers during daytime in recent years. Thus, the people in charge of this program are allowed to land an unexpected success. If you really want to be successful in the long term, more innovation and variety in terms of the games is essential. "
