The Abbey Presbyterian Church ( Irish Eaglais Phreispitéireach na Mainistreach ) or Findlater's Church ( Eaglais Findlater ) is a church in Parnell Square in the Irish capital Dublin .

history

In the 1860s the Presbyterian Church in Dublin grew significantly and the congregation needed and urgently sought new premises. The Dublin merchant Alexander Findlater commissioned the Scottish architect Andrew Heiton of Perth to design a new church. Thanks to the generosity of Alexander Findlater, who financed the construction, the new church was inaugurated in November 1864. Colloquially it is also referred to as "Findlater's Church".

The church, built in the neo-Gothic style and richly decorated, has a side tower on the main entrance side with a height of around 55 meters (180 feet). The interior of the church has an area of around 420 m² and there are stone pillars on both sides that support the roof beams. The interior is followed by the sacristy and the meeting house, which rounds off the overall picture with a large room for congregational purposes. The gable fronts on the street side are decorated with filigree tracery windows. The entrance to the church is directly adjacent to the Dublin Writers Museum building .

One of the first preachers in the ward was John Hall (1829–1898).
