Aberdeen Angus , also known as Aberdeen cattle , is a breed of cattle that was first bred in eastern Scotland around 1870 .

features

These fattening animals are mostly monochrome black and hornless. They are relatively short-legged (small-framed, height at the withers of a bull about 130 cm), very fast-growing and precocious. This breed is particularly popular in the USA today and is one of the most common beef cattle breeds . There is also the red Aberdeen Angus there. The breed has been kept in Germany since around 1920, but did not spread more widely until after 1950.

Due to the early ripeness, the carcass of the animals greases very quickly, which is no longer desirable today. Therefore, in the Federal Republic of Germany, for example , the breed of German Angus was bred from the breed by crossing it with other cattle breeds ( black and white lowland cattle , yellow cattle , Fleckvieh ) . The Wangus cattle emerged from crossing with Wagyu (Japanese cattle) .
