Flaming is a thermal process for weed control in agriculture and horticulture . Accrued weeds are killed with gas burners, or less often oil burners. The soil life is practically not affected by the application on the soil surface.

Flaming devices are available both as attachments for tractors , which enable large-scale use, as well as simple hand-held devices, for example for use in gardening (flaming paths) or in vegetable growing (flaming hard-to-reach corners in greenhouses).

In Germany, Section 39 (5) of the Federal Nature Conservation Act forbids burning down the ground cover on meadows, field areas, raised areas and unused areas, as well as on hedges and slopes.
