A cable knife or wire stripping knife is a special knife used to strip electrical cables . One of the older forms is a simple folding knife , which should make it easier to remove the sheath from cable insulation through a round recess on the blade .

Due to the risk of injury and to avoid damage to the cable or electrical conductor such as notches, tools specially designed for the task of stripping, such as wire stripping pliers , should be used.
