With Ablepharie (gr. A- "kein- / un-" and Blepharon " eyelid ") a partial or complete absence is called an eyelid. The defect can be congenital or acquired. A congenital ablepharia occurs, for example, in ablepharon macrostomy syndrome (AMS). Acquired causes are benign or malignant tumors , mechanical injuries, chemical burns or burns .
