In the printing industry, matching is understood to mean the comparison of a printed product with its master copy. It is part of the in-house quality control . The factors that influence the color impression must be taken into account . These include:

  • Type of light source
    • Transparent templates under standard light D 50 (= 5000 K)
    • Reflection templates under G 65 (= 6500 K)
    • ISO 3664 prescribes standard light D 50 (5,000 Kelvin)
  • document
    • light or dark
    • DIN 6173 stipulates a medium, matt, neutral gray background
  • Viewing: viewing angle and direction of illumination
  • Individual color perception:
    • depending on time of day, age of the viewer
  • Object size:
    • larger printed areas are perceived as brighter and more intense than smaller areas
  • Direction of travel: same orientation of several samples
  • Surface: strongly structured surfaces such as textiles are evaluated differently by the human eye than by the measuring device
