As a farewell collar is called the beaded edge, the one tree to a branch forms directly to his tribe before the road is repelled. The process of this foreclosure can take several years. The farewell collar emerges from the branch collar (astring).
Even after the tree is cut , an analogous bulge forms around the wound, which acts as a shield against infections or pests (see wound wood ).
If a tree grows high, it can happen that the older and lower branches no longer receive sufficient light . If the leaves are missing (and thus the water evaporation), there is no flow of sap from the roots. This causes the branch to die off in the long term. The juice accumulates in the area of the so-called farewell collar. The farewell collar has a sharp notch at the end that creates a predetermined breaking point in the branch to be thrown. This is exactly where the branch later breaks off due to the weight and embrittlement of the dried out wood or from the action of wind or snow.
When pruning, make sure to saw off the branch above the astring with the smallest possible cut surface. An injury leads to serious damage because the area of the collar itself is well cared for.
