A novel by Reinhard Jirgl published in 2005 is called Abtrünnig .

One of the main characters is a Hamburg journalist who, encouraged by his mistress, goes to Berlin to become a writer.

The book contains descriptions “from the journalist trade, descriptions of the milieu from the Berlin newspaper and cultural scene.” Jirgl “shines brightly and relentlessly on the abysmal, the repressed of our social conventions”.
