Accentus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The accentus ( reading style ) is next to the concentus the second important style in Gregorian chant .

It is used for readings of the gospel , as part of psalmodying, etc. The very simple melodies are formed according to given formulas ( melody models ) for the beginning, middle caesura, etc. on the basis of the text, with large parts being syllabically sung on the same note .
