Acestes (martyrs)
Acestes (also: Acestus ; name meaning: "the coming one") († around 65 in Rome ) was a Roman soldier and Christian martyr . However, its historical existence is not certain. According to tradition, Acestes was one of three legionaries who escorted the apostle Paul to his execution during the Neronian persecution of Christians . Paul converted Acestes and the two other legionaries to Christianity, whereupon these three also suffered martyrdom by beheading.
Acestes is venerated as a saint ; his feast day is July 2nd .
