Eagle bone whistle

The eagle bone whistle was a signal and ceremonial whistle of the North American Plains and Prairie Indians .

This instrument was made from the upper part of the wing bones of eagles . In order to conjure up the luck of war, this whistle was blown before the fighting began. The warriors should thereby gain courage, while the blowing of the whistle should instill fear in the enemy. During the fighting, this whistle also served as a signal.
