Admiraal de Ruyter (ship, 1749)
|
The Admiraal de Ruyter was a return ship of the United East India Company (VOC). Built in Amsterdam in 1749, it made several trips to the Far East, where it was launched and sold in 1773.
The mirror ship was built in the same year and at the same shipyard as the Amsterdam whose replica can be seen today in the city of Amsterdam . Since it is part of the same charter as the Amsterdam with 575 loads (1,150 tons) , the outward appearance is also the same. So it was also built according to the concept for 150 voet by Charles Bentam .
Although the ship was built for the VOC's Kamer Amsterdam, 6 of the 15 voyages were made for the account of other chambers. The first exit took place on New Year's Eve 1749 from Texel to Batavia . Other trips went to Canton , Deschima and Ceylon . She returned to the Netherlands five times . The last exit was in January 1767 from Fort Rammekens . When it arrived in Ceylon, it was put up for sale.
